PM Surya Ghar & Government Subsidies
Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, residential rooftop solar consumers receive direct central financial assistance (CFA): ₹30,000 for a 1 kW system, ₹60,000 for a 2 kW system, and the maximum of ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW capacity and above. The subsidy is deposited directly into your bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) within 30 days after DISCOM net-meter commissioning.
You will need:
- Latest electricity bill copy (showing Consumer ID / CA Number).
- Aadhaar Card of the electricity connection holder.
- Bank Account Passbook / Cancelled Cheque (for DBT subsidy credit).
- Passport-size photograph and roof ownership proof / property tax receipt.
Yes! Group Housing Societies (GHS) and Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) can avail a central subsidy of ₹18,000 per kW for common facility lighting, lifts, water pumps, and clubhouse rooftop solar installations up to 500 kW capacity.
Direct capital subsidies are reserved for residential homes and agricultural PM-KUSUM pumps. However, commercial establishments and factories enjoy huge financial benefits including 40% Accelerated Depreciation (AD) tax write-offs, Input Tax Credit (ITC) on GST, and massive operational savings by offsetting high commercial tariff rates (₹8 to ₹12/unit).
Solar Sizing, Roof Area & Power Generation
As a general engineering rule of thumb, each 1 kW of solar capacity requires approximately 80 to 100 square feet of shadow-free rooftop area. For a standard 3 kW residential system, you will need approximately 250 to 300 sq. ft. of clear roof space facing south or with optimized east-west tilt.
In Indian weather conditions with an average of 4.5 to 5.2 peak sun hours, a 1 kW solar system produces approximately 4 to 4.5 units (kWh) per day (approx. 120–135 units/month and ~1,500 units/year). A 3 kW plant generates 12–14 units daily (~400 units/month), which comfortably offsets standard household electricity consumption.
Yes. Modern Tier-1 Monocrystalline and TopCon PERC panels utilize diffuse and ambient sunlight to generate power even on overcast or rainy days, producing approximately 25% to 40% of their peak rated capacity. With an on-grid net-metered system, any shortfall is automatically drawn from the grid without interruption.
Yes! Urja Setu manufactures customized, hot-dip galvanized and aluminum mounting structures engineered specifically for RCC flat roofs, tin/industrial metal shed roofs, curved roofs, and elevated superstructures that allow full rooftop utility and terrace usage underneath.
Net Metering & Grid Synchronization
A Bi-directional Net Meter replaces your conventional meter. During sunny daytime hours, your solar system powers your home and exports surplus excess units to the grid, spinning the meter backward. At night, you draw power from the grid. At the end of the billing cycle, your DISCOM bills you only for the Net Units consumed (Import Units minus Export Units).
Unused excess units exported to the grid are banked and rolled forward as solar credit units to the next billing cycle. At the end of the settlement year (usually March 31st), remaining surplus units are either credited or adjusted against future bills according to your state electricity regulatory commission (SERC) regulations.
Standard On-Grid string inverters are equipped with mandatory Anti-Islanding Protection that shuts down the inverter within milliseconds during a grid blackout to prevent back-feeding and protect DISCOM linemen working on the power lines. If you require uninterrupted backup during power cuts, Urja Setu offers Hybrid Solar Systems with Lithium / Tubular Battery Storage.
Hardware Quality, Warranties & Lifespan
All APN Solar PV panels feature a design life of 30+ years and come with a 10-Year Comprehensive Product Warranty and a 25-Year Linear Power Output Warranty (guaranteeing ≥84.8% performance at Year 25). Panels are BIS, IEC, TUV, and ALMM certified.
Yes. Our solar modules are built with 3.2mm high-transmission tempered AR-coated glass tested to resist hailstones impacting at 80 km/h and wind uplift loads of up to 2,400 Pa (wind speeds exceeding 160–180 km/h). Our structural engineering conforms to IS 875 wind safety codes.
Solar systems have zero moving parts and require minimal maintenance. We recommend simple water washing twice a month (or using an automated sprinkler kit) to remove dust, leaves, and bird droppings. Urja Setu also provides comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) with periodic electrical health audits.
Franchise & Dealership Opportunities
Entrepreneurs, electrical contractors, and business owners with a commercial office space (150–400 sq. ft.) and basic entrepreneurial drive can apply for an APN Solar Franchise or District Dealership. Investment models start with low working capital, OEM marketing collaterals, hardware demo kits, and comprehensive technical & sales training provided by Gautam Communication and APN Solar Energy Pvt. Ltd.
Yes, 100%! Our central engineering team assists franchise partners with AutoCAD solar layouts, 3D shadow simulations, DISCOM portal net-metering liaison, BOM procurement at direct OEM wholesale rates, and on-site commissioning guidance.
